The Place Beyond the Pines Review

Bradley Cooper, Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes star in this thrilling crime drama. The movie boasts standout performances from Gosling and Cooper, one playing as a motorcycle stuntman and a policeman, respectively. There’s bank robberies, motorcycle-riding, romance and plenty of drama. The film has a wonderfully-written script and the story plays out beautifully. The way each character connects with the next is clever and well thought out. Each person has their own unique identity, flaws and characteristics. As the film progresses, things get more interesting and thrilling. The consequences of these character’s decisions plays out right before your eyes and you get to peek deep into the future towards the end. This 144 minute movie may be a little too long, as it feels like two or three movies combined into one. This may scare some viewers away because the length can sometimes take a toll. Luckily, it makes up for that with it’s ability to keep you interested, regardless of length. Overall, The Place Beyond the Pines is a successful and engaging viewing experience you likely don’t want to miss.

  1. Nice review Wade. It was perfectly acted by all involved, but the story was missing that key factor that really made it compelling. Especially around the last act, where it mostly seemed to fall apart.
