The Amazing Spider-Man is a super hero movie based off the Marvel super hero of the same name. The movie made its debut on July 3rd, 2012. The story revolves around one of the most popular super heroes known to mankind. Peter Parker is forced to live with his aunt and uncle because of family matters. While visiting a local scientific research facility, he gets bitten by a radioactive spider that gives him super-human powers. A one-armed scientist from the facility named Dr. Curt Connors has been working to find a way to “regrow” his arm. Since lizards have the ability to grow their tails and limbs after they fall off, he’s been experimenting with the creature’s DNA. When he finally tests the product on himself, he turns into this lizard-like creature (hence his super villain name: The Lizard) and wreaks havoc across The Big Apple. Now it’s up to Spiderman to stop him.
This movie attracted a lot of attention from average movie goers and comic book nerds alike. When photos of the film were released to the media, lots of mixed feelings brewed. Some were positive, and others were not so hyped up for the upcoming film. Excuses such as “I don’t like the outfit” or “I don’t like that his web-shooting capability isn’t biotic” were only a few of the complaints. I’ll be honest, I was one of them. I wasn’t too excited for the movie, but I figured I’d give it a shot to see if it was worth watching.

I must say, I was impressed! The cast worked well with each other and never broke their character, the fight sequences were spectacular, and the screenplay was decently written. The only thing I didn’t like about the film was that in the comic books, Peter Parker is a nerd. Every single time I asked one of my female friends about the movie, the first thing that comes out of their mouths is “Oh my God, Andrew Garfield is so cute!” Peter Parker is a nerd, not a chick magnet! Even though Andrew Garfield did a great job with the role he was given, he’s too much of a “chick-magnet” to play a nerd. Other than that, I have no problem with the movie.

Bottom line, everybody needs to see this movie and/or buy it on Blu-Ray. I will be sure that’s what I do when it hits store shelves. I’m not sure what the comic book buffs will think of the film, but I think they should see the movie anyway. With a well-chosen cast, great special effects, and a story line that’s just as good, The Amazing Spider-Man will be difficult to hate.
